Meeting 10 - The Review of Life and Action

1. Opening prayer or reflection

2. Minutes of last meeting

3. Review of life and action – Seeing, Judging and Acting on our lives, communities and world

What happened this week? it may be something that happened at work, or in the family. It may be a conversation or an article you read.

    • What caused this to happen?
    • How did it affect the people involved?
    • What are the good and bad things about this happening?
    • What was your reaction/action?
    • Was that a good reaction? A responsible reaction?

4. The SJA method

Over the past eight weeks we have used a method for our meeting. Each week Point three has been a section entitled ‘Review of happenings’. In this section we discussed significant things that happened in the week. What sorts of things have we learnt or discovered?

Hopefully we have learnt that we are not slaves to the things that happen to us. We should be able to face them and have an opinion about them. We should be able to take action to build the world we want to exist. Discuss

Perhaps we have grown in the understanding that we do have a special responsibility to take action. The things that happen around us are a call to us to become involved and take action to build a different world. Action can give new meaning to our lives. Discuss.

We will now call this section ‘Review of life and action.’ Our starting point will still be the things that are happening around us but we will put special emphasis on what ACTION we have taken in response. We will review our Action – our Life and Action.

The Parable of the Mustard Seed

“Then he said. ‘What is the kingdom of God like? To what can I compare it?’

It is like a mustard seed that a person took and planted in the garden. When it was fully grown, it became a large bush and the birds of the sky dwelt in its branches.

The Parable of the Yeast

Again he said. ‘To what can I compare the kingdom of God?

It is like yeast that a woman took and mixed in three measures of wheat flour until the whole batch of dough was leavened.” (Luke 13:18-20)
